FOR YOUR INFORMATION
CPE in Tennessee is required of all ACTIVE licensees in the amount of 80 hours each two-year period with a minimum of 20 hours in each year.
Forty (40) hours (of the 80) must be completed in the areas of accounting and auditing, taxation accounting ethics, or management advisory services (includes financial advising), with a minimum of 20 hours each year. If you engage in the attest function (including compilation), you must complete at least 20 (of the 40) hours in accounting and auditing.
If you are engaged as an expert witness in the areas of accounting, attest, management advisory services, or tax, you should obtain at least 20 hours (of the 80) in the general subject area(s) relating to such testimony.
CPE standards have been issued for auditors who engage in governmental audits or work under GAGAS standards. The standards require completion, every 2 years of at least 80 hours CPE that “directly enhance the auditor’s professional proficiency to perform audits and/or attestation engagements.” At least 24 of the 80 hours should be in subjects directly related to government auditing, the government environment or specific environment in which the audited entity operates.
Licensees who renew in 2009 must complete 4 hours (over a two year period) of general and state-specific ethics CPE, with at least 1 hour being a state-specific ethics course approved by the State Board. This conference offers 2 hours of ethics – 1 hour of state-specific and 1 hour of general ethics.
